London

London has a reputation for being ruinously expensive, and the hotels certainly can be. But the big museums are free, the buses and Tube have daily fare caps, and a good walk along the river costs nothing. The Canary Islands

The islands are all warm for most of the year, but they don't feel alike. Gran Canaria has big beaches, a lively capital and mountain villages inland.
